I am going through Winter Olympics withdraw.  These last few weeks have been amazing.  There was a point last week when I pretty much decided that the Winter Olympics is so much more exciting than the Games in the summer, but then I remembered that Track and Field was in the summer….hmmm it’s a toss-up. There are so many more races and events decided by 1/100th of a second.  I am not a huge fan of the events that involve the points and judges decisions but Shaun White was pretty neat on his snow board.

Short Track Speed Skating was my absolute favorite to watch.  So tactical! You could go from last to 1st in one turn.  I am sure that Apolo Ohno wasn’t thinking about Ricky Bobby when he would sprint to the front but he sure was motivated to get there.  It is like a little high speed chess match.

Ski cross, a new Olympic sport this year, looks like pure adrenaline. You’ve got high speeds, and the racing element, what more could you want? It looks really, really fun.

Chase’s favorite was Ice Skating.  Not all of the Ice Skating, only the skating involving “princesses.”  One night we were watching the Pairs which she loved. Later that week the men were on by themselves.  My daughter was very disturbed by this and said “Hey, where are the princesses, I want to see the princesses.” Wasn’t Kim Yu-Na’s performance absolutely dominating?  I saw that her fans call her “Queen Yu-Na.” Very fitting, but she is still a princess in Chase’s book.

So until the Russian Federation sets the torch ablaze in 2014, I can hardly wait to see what the snow and ice will bring and even what new tricks will come about…Triple Cork McTwist?  Do you think he has a deal with McDonalds?
